Just what does it mean ...... inheritance? Mirriam- Webster's definition

in·her·i·tance Listen to the pronunciation of inheritance
Pronunciation:
\in-ˈher-ə-tən(t)s, -ˈhe-rə-\
Function:
noun
Date:
14th century

1 a: the act of inheriting property b: the reception of genetic qualities by transmission from parent to offspring c: the acquisition of a possession, condition, or trait from past generations2: something that is or may be inherited3 a: tradition b: a valuable possession that is a common heritage from nature 4obsolete : possession

First and foremost, we as Christians enjoy the inheritance of eternal life just as Jesus promised.....John 14:19-20 In just a little while the world will not see me again, but you will. For I will live again, and you will, too. When I am raised to life again, you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.

When we become children of God through the grace of Christ we have become heirs to the glory God is awaiting to present to us! Gal 4:5-7 God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children. And because you Gentiles have become his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, and now you can call God your dear Father. Now you are no longer a slave but God's own child. And since you are his child, everything he has belongs to you.

But Look at the “b” of the definition..... 'the reception of genetic qualities by transmission from parent to offspring.' See, when we put on Christ and become children of God we also start 'inheriting' godly qualities....Col 3:12-15 Since God chose you to be the holy people whom he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. You must make allowance for each other's faults and forgive the person who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. And the most important piece of clothing you must wear is love. Love is what binds us all together in perfect harmony. And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are all called to live in peace. And always be thankful.

We should strive to be Christ like. We should walk daily following His footsteps. For it is through Him that we have been set free from the bondage of sin and now are heirs to the promise of God.
